The Mkeka is an important, yet overlooked, item in your Kwanzaa celebration display. It is a straw mat that represents the foundation of which all else rests upon. It displays the Kinara, the Mishumaa Saba, the Kikombe Cha Umoja and the harvest in the celebration days.  This Mkeka is handwoven and made from raffia leaves. Which makes this mat a truly unique piece. They are hand stained and will vary from the photograph. Each Mkeka generally measures: 16.0”(W) x 13.”(L). Choose from Red or Brown.

    Our Mkeka mats are handcrafted in Uganda, East Africa. Each Mkeka has been hand woven from raffia leaves into a cultural symbol that reflects the foundation of the holiday and our history.

     

    Due to the nature of handmade crafts, sizing, colors and design may vary. Our handcrafted Mkeka mats generally measure: 16.0”(W) x 13.0”(L).
